Police in Akosombo have arrested three suspects in connection with an attempted highway robbery at a town near Juapong over the weekend.
The suspects who were said to have disguised themselves in police uniforms at a checkpoint attacked passengers on a mini bus on the Juapong Nnudu highway, shooting the driver in the process.
An eyewitness who was aboard the bus said the driver was quick to discover that the torch-wielding people were not policemen but armed robbers and in an attempt to reverse and speed away, he was shot in the arm.
The witness said another passenger who is also a driver took the bus and drove away to safety.
The driver of the said vehicle is receiving treatment at the Ho General hospital.
The police have deferred comments except to say that the suspects may be arraigned before court based on the outcome of investigations.
