The Police Administration is introducing a system to help prospective second-hand car buyers ensure vehicles they intend to buy are not stolen.
The International Police Organization, INTERPOL, helped install the system after a recent operation to confiscate vehicles stolen in Europe and North America, and put up for sale in Ghana.
Director of Police Public Relations, DSP Kwesi Ofori, tells Joy News the general public should take advantage of the facility before paying for second-hand vehicles.
He said individuals who intend to buy used vehicles imported into the country should submit the chassis numbers of the vehicles to ensure they do not buy stolen items.
The system, which is linked to the international database of vehicles at the Interpol Head Office in New York and the sub-regional database in Abidjan, is the latest facility available to the police service to crack down on illegal vehicle trading, DSP Ofori said.
“Often times… most of these expensive cars that are brought in …are stolen,” he hinted.
