The North East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) personnel stationed at the Gbintri Inland checkpoint, which led to the death of one officer.
In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabik Anmain, Public Affairs Officer for the region, it said the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unknown gunmen launched an assault on the officers.
It said both sustained gunshot wounds, but while one officer sadly died from his injuries, the other was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Command said that the attackers reportedly made away with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. Police, however, managed to retrieve a service rifle that had been in use at the checkpoint during the attack.
It assured the public that a manhunt was underway to bring the perpetrators of what it described as a “heinous crime” to justice.
“We hereby appeal to the public to provide any information on the culprits to assist police investigations,” the statement added.
