The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that the Police Hospital returned the convener of the #FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to police custody due to a lack of funds to cover his medical expenses.
In a statement on Friday, October 11, the Police said these claims are "palpable falsehoods" and are part of numerous attempts aimed at courting public sympathy.
“We would like to emphasize that every cost associated with his visit to the hospital was borne by the Ghana Police Service in line with our Standard Operating Procedures regarding suspects in our custody,” part of the statement read.
However, the Police indicated that they are unable to share evidence regarding the medical expenses due to doctor-patient confidentiality.
“We would also like to state that the accused person was not rushed to the hospital, as falsely claimed,” the Police said.
The Police, therefore, urged the public to disregard these “baseless” claims related to this incident.

On Thursday, October 10, Democracy Hub, organisers of the recent three-day #StopGalamseyNow and #ReoccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrations called on authorities to take immediate action to address the health concerns of activist, Barker-Vormawor.
In a press statement, the group said Mr Barker-Vormawor was rushed to the Police Hospital earlier on Thursday, due to a serious health deterioration.
"We are gravely concerned for his well-being and urge the authorities to act swiftly in addressing his health needs," Democracy Hub stated.
The group noted that medical professionals were conducting tests to assess his condition and determine whether hospitalisation was necessary.
Democracy Hub emphasised the gravity of the situation and urged the authorities to ensure that Mr Barker-Vormawor receives the medical care he needs.
"This situation is critical, and we hope the authorities will respond with the urgency it demands," the statement added.
