A team of policemen from Agona Ashanti, has allegedly descended on the students of Adu Gyamfi Senior High School at Jamasi in Ashanti region, and beaten them up leaving three of them seriously injured.
This followed the fracas which ensued between the students and the Senior House Master of the school in the late hours of Wednesday.
Two of the injured students, Kizito (form 3 C) and Amoako Atta, (form 3A) were rushed to the Mampong Hospital but a third student, whose name was not available immediately, and said to be in a critical condition, has been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Efforts by the Times to get the authorities of the school to comment on the issue proved futile as they were tight-lipped over the incident.
Many telephone calls made to get the Agona Police Commander to comment on the matter proved futile as there was no response from his end.
The Times gathered that a student was allegedly eating at the school's canteen late in the evening last Wednesday when the senior house master, Nii Adjetey Adjetey, confronted him resulting in a misunderstanding between them.
In the process, the house master allegedly subjected the student to beatings with a stick which attracted a section of the students who went to the aid of their colleague who was said to have been unconscious.
The subsequent episode saw the students running amok and vandalising some items at the senior housemaster's residence, thus threatening the life of his wife and children who managed to escape.
It was during the time that the police who were called in to ensure peace, allegedly descended on the students, a source told the Times.
When the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate was contacted the head of the Public Relations Unit, Owusu Agyemang, said a committee had been set up to investigate the incident.
He said calm had been restored in the school and the students had their classes.
