The orders of the Inspector General of Police to officers of the MTTU to stop inspecting vehicle licenses and other documents is beginning to give the officers tough time in carrying out their job on the roads.
IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye earlier this week warned MTTU officers caught flouting his orders will be severely dealt with.
Joy News has learnt that some officers got furious today when drivers refused to allow them examine the road worthiness of their cars.
MTTU Commander ACP Awuni told News Editor Samson Lardy Ayenini his personnel are having a tough time with motorists following the directives by the IGP.
According to him, a driver who was driving and speaking on a mobile phone at the same time challenged a police man when he decided to check his driving documents.
Citing the Road Traffic Acts 683 sections 53, 65(c), 112 the MTTU commander said the police has the power to inspect licenses, road worthy certificates and other important documents.
He said the public has misunderstood the directive of the IGP, explaining the IGP only meant that the police spend too much time inspecting those documents at the expense of other road traffic offences.
Meanwhile, some motorists told Joy News the police have abandoned the road following the directive by the IGP.
