The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has received a tape recording purported to be the voice of a Deputy Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku.
On the tape, Awuku is reportedly heard making derogatory remarks against some of the nine justices of the Supreme Court hearing the election petition and alleging the lives of some of the judges may be in danger.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur said the Information Ministry handed over the tape to the CID to begin investigations.
DSP Cephas Arthur added that they would invite Sammy Awuku and anyone connected to it if the need arises.
Government had hinted it will thoroughly investigate the issue which it says bothers on national security.
Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu said the investigation is to enable government establish the authenticity of the said tape.
Meanwhile, Sammy Awuku who has vehemently denied making such comments said the tape is doctored.
He has also filed a legal suit against the radio station that played the tape and has vowed to include any other media house that plays it.
