Central Region Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Takyi-Mensah, has asked President John Mahama to step down over the power challeges facing the country.
According to him, the best option to end the energy crisis that has hit the country is for government to invest more money to generate power in the country instead of sacking the ECG boss.
President John Mahama through the Chief of Staff in a statement on Friday, November 21, 2014 relieved the ECG boss of his post.
His sack was said to be in connection with the recent intensification of power outages in the country which has been attributed to the incompetence of the ECG.
However, ECG staff across the country are demanding his re-instatement, saying he is being sacrificed for the inefficiency of the power generators, VRA and GRIDCO.
ECG, they insist, only distributes the power it is given.
Speaking on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mr. Takyi-Mensah indicated it was inappropriate for the President to order the sack of the ECG boss.
“If ECG is the distributor why should they be punished for the ‘dumsor we are facing now? If ECG boss is sacked then the president should step down because he has already failed Ghanaians miserably.
“The president should step down and allow competent people to stay on because I think he is not competent enough. He promised that from 2012 this dumsor (power crisis) issue will end but still nothing has been done to improve the energy sector” he bemoaned.
