The Deputy Energy Minister says the ruling government’s record of achievement in three years is unassailable and has attributed the erratic power supply to pure accident.
Inusah Fuseini said having spent eight years in power, the New Patriotic Party should be the first to appreciate some of the challenges confronting the energy sector and the reason for the intermittent outages.
Speaking on Joy FM and MultiTV news analysis programme Newsfile, Saturday the deputy minister said merely because a car stops by the wayside because of a carburetor failure or sudden electrical fault, neither the car nor the driver can be blamed.
Rather the urgency with which the fault is repaired and the car brought back on road is more important, he stated.
He said whilst “nobody gets excited when the power goes off” the government should be given thumps up for the alacrity with which it gets the problem resolved.
He said the achievement of the NDC in three years cannot be overemphasized.
“Point-on-point on development, we are far above the NPP and nobody is going to say it for us if we don’t say it and that is why we are saying it.
“…Rural electrification, eight years the NPP came, they took it by 11 per cent to 54 per cent. In three years we have taken to 72 per cent and the records are there for all to say it.
“If you say this government is not working go to the villages,” he charged, adding the president decided it was completely unacceptable for people to sit under trees and write the same exams with students who sit in air-conditioned classrooms.
He said with the same opportunity the NPP rather invested the GETfund in building football fields.
But a former press secretary to ex-president John Kufuor who was also on the show described the achievements being touted by the NDC as propagandist.
Kwabena Agyapong said the record the NPP left is “ten times better” than what the NDC is pontificating.
Whilst acknowledging that people vote for a number of reasons, he was unequivocal in his conviction that governments must begin to mature and get over propagandists issues.
He said when the NPP took over the reins of government, oil and international reserves were less than two weeks but bequeathed to the NDC in eight years a better reserve of close to two months.
He said whilst the government continue to propagate unprecedented achievements, mothers are dying because the maternal health care is no longer functioning.
He challenged the government to provide proof of the schools under trees it claimed to have eliminated.
