The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) say they are heading to Court to overturn a Police order stopping them from embarking on a planned demonstration against corruption in the country. PPP’s General Secretary, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, told Joy News the restraining order on the planned demonstration - which would have taken place Tuesday - is a sad spectacle for Ghana's democracy. Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh told Joy News although the Police had discussed with officials of the party about the need to rescind plans of embarking on the demonstration because they (Police) will not be able to provide them with security, the party did not cooperating. Police then went ahead to secure the Court order against the action. But according to the party, the Police's action is calculated to stop them from pursuing their constitutional right. "We have made a lot of investments to be able to activate these series of demonstrations. For us to be hit at the last minute with a court order...is quite unfortunate", stated Asamoah-Siaw. He said starting Tuesday morning, the party would start fighting the restraining order at the Circuit Court, but even if they failed, they would head to the Human Rights Court to seek redress.
