As part of the Odadeɛ Commemorative Week, a Career Day was held for students on March 1, at Presbyterian Boys’ SHS, Legon.
The programme was dubbed "The New World of Work" and was powered by the 2012 Odade3 year group.
The career day is an annual event held by old students to prep final year students of PRESEC-Legon for the world of work and guide them on their future programmes of study.
Astute Odade3s were drawn from different walks of life to serve as speakers: Hon. Fuseini Issah (1992), Dr. Kuntu Blankson (2012), Kofi Genfi (2012) and Kwaku Darko Gyima (2012).
Also in attendance were Odade3s such as Rev. Godwin Quarshie (1981); Mr. John Addo-Fening (1981) Mg. Dir Odade3 Radio and CEO Rite 90.1fm and Mr. Michael Kwasi Ofori (2007) CEO Investor Hub who are making great strides in their respective careers.
Dr. Kuntu Blankson, a Medical Doctor at the Police hospital.
He charged the students who desire to chart careers in the field of medicine to study hard to be all-rounders (Grade A students in all subjects).
Furthermore, he challenged them to develop good communication skills, human relations skills and to develop adaptation skills. On the latter skill, he illustrated that the doctor faces different ailing situations of patients and it behoves on the doctor to adopt the appropriate countenance and attitude to best serve their clients.
He also demystified the notion that one ought to necessarily have a connection at the Medical Schools to gain admission.
Founder of Fintech technologies Mazzuma and Utopia, Kofi Genfi was also present.
He is a Forbes 30 under 30 Awardee under the technology category.
In his speech, he impressed upon the students to foster good friendships but not to take their friends for granted because his company was birthed by his association with a collegaue Odade3; Nii Osae Osae-Dade.
He drew the participant's attention to the fact that today's jobs and businesses are competed at the global level hence there should be a shift from thinking local to preparing onself for the global market.
Kwaku Darko Gyima is the CEO of Jema Studio - a photography company operating mainly in Ghana and the USA. He's worked with brands like GRA, DVLA, IZWE, Goldfield, ENI, Bosch etc.
In his talks, he impressed upon the participant's to build viable relationships. He underscored that capital was not the key requirement to starting your business but rather having a good knowledge of your business idea was important to getting investors to invest in one's business.
In addition, He advised the participants to embrace the entire process building from scratch to greatness
While citing Ecclesiastes 9:11 of the bible, He charged the participants to be sensitive to opportunities around them and to prepare adequately for them.
He capped off by stressing that the students do not have to feel entitled to anything but rather to work hard.
A former MP, Okaikwei North, Fuseini Issah, is a Chartered Accountant and Investment Banker.
He relayed on countless occasions the need for the students to be open-minded, to have fun yet to keep learning.
He charged the students to make themselves indispensable to the continuous process of learning.
Panel Discussion
Following the speakers, talks was a panel discussion moderated by Shafic Osman, a lawyer and an Odade3 of the 2012 year group.
The key question posed to the speakers was how one could manage disruptions in one's career - a unanimous answer from the speakers were preparedness and continuous learning.
The programme ended with the students put into about 12 groups and were mentored by the speakers as well as Odade3 2012 members who came to grace the occasion.
The curtains were drawn down by insightful remarks from the Odade3 Global Mentorship Director, Michael Kwasi Ofori, CEO Investor Hub.
