President John Agyekum Kufuor has delivered his last address to the African Union (AU) to bid farewell to his colleagues and the Union.
As his term of office ends in January, 2009 as President of Ghana, this 11th Summit is his last to an African Union session.
In a speech delivered about mid-night in Egypt, President Kufuor expressed thanks for the privilege to associate with his colleagues and the Union and pledged to continue to promote the ideals of the AU.
He urged the Union to empower the Commission to enable it implement its decisions.
On behalf of the Union, President Laurent Gbagbo of Cote d’Ivoire praised and thanked President Kufuor for his wisdom, exemplary leadership and importantly, his contribution to peace in Africa particularly Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote d’Ivoire and recently Kenya.
The two-day AU 11th Summit has ended in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
