President John Evans Atta Mills on Saturday noted that the gradual fading of the truth in society is causing cracks in the foundation of the country and could eventually lead to its collapse.
He therefore called on all Ghanaians to let their watchword be the truth and uphold it at all times to serve as basis for accelerated growth and development.
President Mills who expressed these sentiments at a grand durbar of the chiefs and people of Oguaa to climax the week-long celebration of their annual Fetu Afahye festival reiterated his call on Ghanaians to exercise patience as his government works hard to develop the country.
He urged the chiefs to forge a united front in their communities to complement government's efforts to ensure the progress of the country.
President Mills, who spotted a Kente cloth with white jumper, pledged that the Fosu lagoon would be dredged but pleaded with residents of Cape Coast to give his administration ample time to be able to do so. He was responding to an appeal by the Oguaamanhene (Paramount chief), Osabarima Kwesi Atta II.
Osabarima Atta called on the people to unite and stop maligning each other. He observed that the visit of the US President Barrack Obama to the metropolis had opened up the area for investments and asked the people to avail themselves of the numerous opportunities to foster development.
The colourful festival which brought together the seven Asafo companies of the area engaged in dramatic displays as they went on procession through the principal streets of the town. The event was witnessed by a large number of people including Mr. Samuel Valis Akyeanu, an ambassador designate, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Harry Martey Newman and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey.
Also present were the Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa-Doe and Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Joseph Annan and Mr. Ebo Barton-Odro, Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
