A Roman Catholic Priest is calling for the suspension of this year´s general elections.
Rev. Father Ignatius Amponsah of the St. Joseph´s Catholic Church at Nsawam has noted that due to the way the recent registration exercise was handled, this year´s general election should be suspended.
According to him, it there had been allegations that the voters´ register was already bloated and if that is true, there is no way we can have a credible voters´ register and election in 2008.
Father Ignatius Amponsah in an interview with ASEMPA NEWS therefore suggested that in order to have a genuine voters´ register and election, the Electoral Commission must be re-constituted with the inter-party group.
Rev. Father Amponsah further suggested that Dr. Afari Gyan must go on retirement for the current Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Busummuru Kofi Annan and the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Robert Aboagye Mensah to take over as Chairman and deputy Chairman respectively.
