I am really saddened by the President's reference to who voted for him and who didn't vote for him in his address to the Akosombo dam spillage victims. In moments of such human-triggered disaster, I expected a comforting and sympathetic speech devoid of insinuations to wit: "If it's a question of counting who votes for me and who doesn't vote for me, I shouldn't be here, ..."
I least expected our President whose survival as President depends on each taxpayer's money to address psychologically traumatised citizens by referencing the voting pattern of the victims. This is a partisan aspect of the speech, which, even if necessary, should not have come from a President but probably from the National Chairman of the NPP. That would have been appreciated within the context of 'political talk'.
I humbly pray President Nana Akuffo-Addo always remember that he is the President of Ghana with the constitutional mandate of ensuring the security and safety of all citizens without vote-indexed lamentations. He has no constitutional option to choose which tribe or region to support or not to support, especially in times of disaster.
I don't want to believe that it is because of the voting factor that the Presidency delayed visiting the flooded areas. With humility, I pray His Excellency to be guided by the ethics of Governance Leadership, which is not the same as the ethics of Political Party Leadership.
It is important that our President demonstrates national character rather than partisan character in his pronouncements in moments of disaster. My saddest moments.
