With just 73 days left for the December polls, electorates across the country have been showered with series of campaign promises from presidential candidates of the various political parties.
Depending on the location of the electorates, these presidential candidates tactfully fashion a message in an attempt to woo votes ahead of the elections.
After the campaign trail was halted for a day, in respect and honour of their departed colleague - Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo hit the campaign trail running amidst promises of returning Ghana to the top of the world's chart of Cocoa producers.
At the Kalo and Akotombra constituencies, cocoa producing areas in the Western Region, Akufo-Addo promised to raise the current production levels of 750,000 to 1,000,000 tonnes per year.
The presidential candidate has also promised to institute a pension scheme for cocoa farmers to secure their future in retirement.
The farmers lauded the cocoa spraying exercise as well as regular payment of bonuses by the Kufuor administration and hoped Akufo-Addo will improve their lot if given the nod in December.
Joy Fm correspondent Samson Lardi Ayenini who is trailing the Akufo-Addo campaign team reports that the cocoa farmers are excited about the promises, and are upbeat about voting Nana Akufo-Addo into office.
In Accra, the National Democratic Congress’ candidate Prof. John Evans Atta Mills has promised to revamp the educational system in the country when given the nod in December.
In his usual door-to-door campaign strategy in and around Madina, Prof. Mills promised two technical schools would be built in all the Districts to provide avenues for students to harness their skills and potentials.
He has promised to modernise agriculture and make it more attractive to the youth, adding that bamboo and cane plantations will also be encouraged to facilitate the building industry in the country.
Mechanics, traders and drivers who interacted with the Joy News correspondent Stephen Anti after the encounter with Atta Mills say he represents the change that Ghana needs for the future.
After an impressive campaign launch in Accra, the Convention People’s Party is on full throttle, with party leaders bent on causing an upset in December.
Joy Fm’s Cyrus de Graft Johnson who is also trailing the CPP campaign team in Essikado and Shama in the Western Region, says the CPP is gradually waking up from its slumber.
According to him, dozens of supporters thronged the mining centre of Tarkwa to catch a glimpse of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom who was addressing a rally.
Dr. Nduom promised to change the structure of the Ghanaian economy and improve the general standards of living for all Ghanaians.
He has also promised to revamp all the state factories in the country to provide more jobs for the unemployed.
He also says he represents the change Ghana needs in the year 2009.
