The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Shafic Suleman, on Thursday, 17th July 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Atanga Donatus, as part of his official working tour of the region.
The visit, which forms part of the Commission’s nationwide engagement efforts, sought to deepen institutional collaboration and address critical challenges affecting water and electricity service delivery in the Upper East Region.
Dr Suleman, accompanied by members of the PURC Board and management, commended the Minister for the warm reception and congratulated him on his appointment.
“Our visit is to formally introduce the Commission’s leadership and reaffirm our commitment to working closely with your office to ensure improved utility service delivery,” Dr Suleman stated.

He outlined PURC’s new proactive regulatory model, focused on decentralised operations and timely stakeholder engagement. He further announced the upcoming launch of a virtual platform to resolve customer concerns in real-time.
In response, the Minister welcomed the PURC team and expressed optimism about the potential of the partnership to yield positive outcomes for residents. He affirmed his administration’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the Commission to address pressing concerns, particularly in underserved communities.
“We are delighted to partner with PURC, and we assure you of our full support,” he said.
The Minister cited the persistent water challenges in the Bongo area, notably the presence of fluoride and chlorine in the water table, and appealed to the Commission for technical assistance.
He also encouraged the PURC to participate actively in local Assembly meetings to ensure that consumer rights are upheld across the region. Both parties pledged to strengthen ties for improved utility governance and enhanced public service delivery.
