The office of ex-president John Kufuor has reacted to accusations of corruption and bad governance leveled against Mr Kufuor by ex-president John Rawlings.Mr Rawlings during the 32nd celebration of the June 4 insurrection at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi over the week-end, accused Mr Kufuor of stealing and amassing wealth during his eight year tenure.He also accused Kufuor's government of being behind the mysterious murder of over 30 women prior to the 2000 general elections.Mr. Rawlings said as a political trade-off, persons within the NDC who were not prosecuted during the Kufuor regime have, now in government, been emboldened to steal the country’s resources.Even though he did not mention names of such persons, he said such people would rather have the NPP back in power in 2012 than have a corrupt-free leader of a National Democratic Congress retain power.His accusations have been dismissed by government spokespersons some of who have challenged him to name persons within the NDC who are corrupt and to provide evidence.Spokesperson of ex-president Kufuor and former Deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum in a reaction told Joy News the accusations are a baseless set of lies churned out by a personality who has been disowned by his own party.He said ex-President Rawlings has lost all relevance not only on the Ghanaian political terrain but the international arena as well.“President Rawlings is beginning to lose his relevance gradually in Ghanaian politics. His own party is beginning to disown him; the kind of respect he commanded in Ghanaian society is not there; internationally he is not that big any more,” he said.Mr Agyekum also accused the ex-president of being a hypocrite who always sees the wrongs of all politicians but himself and his wife.“When he comes on stage he is as quick to accuse everybody in this country as being incompetent and as corrupt. The only persons he does not accuse are himself and his wife. Perhaps they are the only people in Ghana who are doing the right thing. Everybody in Ghana is doing the wrong things.
