Former president Rawlings and his wife together with four other African Heads of State have been invited to take part in the Independence Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of Liberia. A statement signed by Aide to the former President Kofi Adams says the invitation was in recognition of the president’s personal efforts in ensuring peace in the country, during his reign as President, and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States.(ECOWAS). The celebration is to be held today, July 26. The celebration is Liberia’s 161st independence Anniversary. The West African country became an Independent Republic in 1822 following the first settlement by An American Colonization Society. While in Liberia the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is expected to address a Women’s group. Story by Nathan Gadugah
