Former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor have been honoured for their various roles in the country’s democratic process.
The two statesmen in the country each received a wrist watch and some products from ‘Rising Ghana’, a local NGO.
Presenting the items, Pastor Raymond Danquah the Secretary-General of Rising Ghana submitted that “the aim of the event is to educate the populace on political tolerance and also remember our leaders for their contributions to this country”.
According to him, it is about time that the youth in the country recognized institutions, politicians, distinguished statesmen and women and corporate Ghana, who contributed their quota towards achieving a peaceful and democratic nation.
Pastor Raymond Danquah urged the former leaders, Rawlings and Kufuor, “to advise our [current] leadership to recognize the youth as partners in decisions that affected them”.
Receiving the items on behalf of former President Rawlings, Naval Capt. H. Afeku–Amenyo in a short remark, noted that “youth of today have engaged themselves in drug abuse such as Marijuana, Heroin and cocaine”.
“It is about time we educated the youth on drug usage,” he stressed.
He tasked Rising Ghana to include drug abuse in their educational forum to help in the crusade.
Mr. Frank Agyekum, the Spokesperson for former President Kufuor who also received the items on his behalf, said the gesture done to the former President should serve as an example to all Ghanaian youth on the need to show appreciation to their leaders.
Rising Ghana also honoured Mr. Osei Kwame, Chief Executive of Despite Company Limited, for his exemplary leadership.
