The Receiver for Microfinance, Savings and Loans companies will be announcing a new date for auctioning of vehicles after gathering the properties belonging to firms in other regions of the country to for re-evaluation and auction.
Last week, more than 115 vehicles were sold in the first auction process by the Receiver.
This is part of the process to raise enough funds to pay back customers whose funds were locked up when the affected firms had their licenses withdrawn by the Bank of Ghana last year.
The auction process began with more than 160 vehicles but ended up with 115 being sold before the close of Friday.
The Spokesperson for the Receiver, Philomena Kuzoe said, "I think it has been very successful despite the overwhelming numbers on the first day which we got a bit worried but I think the auctioneers have done a good job looking at the number sold out so far.
She added, “All I can say is that whatever mistakes that might have come up during the process will be worked on in the next auction,” she said.
Though the last day recorded low patronage, the Receiver expressed satisfaction with the results so far. Depositors will have to exercise some patience until all the assets of their respective companies have been sold.
“The depositors are part of a group of debtors that we will settle but that will follow the law as mandated by the Bank of Ghana. The receiver's job is to retrieve assets of these institutions and all other funds that may be as a result of any arrangement with the financial institutions,” Philomena Kuzoe said.
