Over 300 units of blood were collected as hundreds of regular donors poured in on Saturday to show continued commitment to the cause of saving lives at Luv FM’s last quarterly mobilization for this year.

Officials of the Komfo Anokye Hospital Blood Bank were overwhelmed by the patronage which saw the exercise exceed official target of 300 units.

The exercise seeks to augment stock at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Blood Bank and other health facilities, ahead of Christmas when demand for blood increases.

As early as 7 a.m. on Saturday, some donors had besieged the premises of the station ready to sacrifice the ‘gift of life’.

“I was so touched when I heard the jingle play for the first time on Luv FM. This is the second time after I first donated in 2012”, a donor told Luv News.

Another expressed a sense of inner satisfaction for supporting such a noble cause. “It is my first time donating a pint of blood and the experience has allayed fears I had prior to coming. This is my Christmas gift to people in need of blood”. She added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana National Blood Service has adjudged Kwasi Agyemang Baffour of Kumasi overall blood donor for 2015.

The 36 year old has donated blood 55 times since 1996.

For his reward, he received a citation and a double-decker refrigerator which he decided to give to charity, a regular female blood donor being the beneficiary.

Mr. Agyemang Baffour told Luv News he draws motivation and commitment from God.

He encourages other people to emulate him in championing the cause of making blood always available for emergencies.

“I am doing this because God has instructed me to help others. I’m humbled by the award but the motivation is not to receive awards, for which reason I gave the award (refrigerator) out to another donor who needs it more. Donating a pint of blood is a good cause and I would encourage everyone to donate when the chance comes”. Mr. Agyemang Baffour said.

Principal Blood Organizer at the Komfo Anokye Hospital, Kofi Adu Amoateng, who was full of gratitude to doors, told Luv News the blood bank’s expectation has far been exceeded.
