The Voters Registration Exercise, which commenced today July 31, has taken-off smoothly in the Upper East Region, without any reported hitch.
By 0830 hours, registration officers had arrived in the registration centres of the designated electoral areas with the needed materials for the exercise.
Ghanaians, who have attained 18 years and those above but could not register in the previous exercise, were seen forming long queues to register.
Electoral areas the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited included Zaare, Dapotondongo/Soe and Tanzu/Zobisi electoral areas.
At Zaare, people started forming the queue very early in the morning and by 0830 hours, 10 people had registered.
At about 0930 hours, 17 people had registered at Dapotondongo/Soe electoral area with 23 people doing so at the Tanzu/Zobisi electoral area as at 1020 hours.
Persons, who were above the voting age of 18, were given a form to fill explaining why they could not vote and educated on the implication of double registration.
Mr Thomas Byimba, Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission told the GNA that enough logistics have been provided for the exercise in the region.
Meanwhile, one person, who was above the 18 years but could not give proper explanation for failing to register during the previous exercise, was turned away at the Tanzu/Zobisi Electoral Area.
