Residents of the Northern Regional town of Savelugu are outraged by the decision of the Judicial Service to close down a court there.
They said this has created a very discomforting situation where they have to travel some 23 kilometres to Tamale to access the services of a court.
Joy News’ Northern Regional Correspondent, Martina Bugri, has disclosed the court in the town was closed because it was not getting enough cases to warrant its operation so the decision by the Judicial Service to move all the cases there to Tamale.
The Judicial Service closed down the court in Savelugu some moths ago because it heard only a few cases.

The compound of the court has since been occupied by food vendors, mechanics, washing bay as well as credit card vendors.
According to Matina, the giant cream and green building has become a white elephant attracting cobwebs.
Speaking to Joy News, a resident of the area expressed his frustration.
“We deal with people as well as having to settle issues with clients,” he said adding “the absence of the court means we have to go to Tamale and have our issues addressed.”
He explained accessing the court in Tamale has its own challenges because the place is “already crowded in terms of people.”
On their part, the police in Savelugu said their work has become more challenging due to the closure of the court.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Peter Kojo Tawiah said, “Almost all the time prosecutors have to travel from Savelugu to Tamale.”
"If we have it restored," he said, "it will help us because we are in the town."
However, sources close to Joy News have disclosed there is currently no plan to get the court in good shape to settle disputes and matters of legality.
