The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has called on churches operating within its jurisdiction to respect the ban on noise making and drumming in order to avoid confrontation with the Ga traditional authorities.
The ban is expected to come into force on Monday, and the Metropolitan authority said the two groups “must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about their beliefs’.
"We expect that the normal way of worship..drumming, the excessive noise-making which people have had cause to complain that churches within residential areas do not allow residents to have their peace of mind..."We are going to make sure that there is total silence during the period", AMA Public Relations Officer Nuumo Blafo told Joy News.
The ban on drumming and noise making to usher in the celebration of this year's Homowo by Gas would begin from Monday, May 12 to Thursday, June 12, 2014.
The PRO said those who flout the orders will be handed over to the traditional authorities for punitive actions against them.
