The Retired Footballers in Ghana has made a passionate appeal to active Black Stars players to financially sponsor the Oldies League.
The 19-team league has been in session the last two years with ex-internationals like Mohammed Polo, Ibrahim Sunday and Awuley Quaye featuring.
This year Teshie Oldies won the league and will officially be crowned league champions for the 2012/2013 season with a coronation match at the Accra Stadium on Saturday.
Their reward is two balls, a trophy but no cash prize.
Spokesperson for the Retired National Footballers Association, Willie Klutse, a member of the 1978 Nations Cup winning, reiterated why the current players must help the association.
“I want to appeal to our Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, who always talks about the National retired league, to come and help us financially,” he told Accra-based Joy sports
“I will appeal to him to talk to his colleagues for them to sow this seed into an association that one day they will be part of, If they will even contribute the surplus or coins in their pocket we will take it and build the association.
“One day before they will retire their contributions will be of their own benefits so they should consider our appeal because we are doing a lot for the old players and we need support to take care of the old players.”
