Government has made public, plans to source the services of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the 48 Engineer regiment, in the construction of roads across the country.
In partnership with Engineers at the ministry, the military officers according to the Minister will be given the responsibility of repairing bad roads, construction of new ones if necessary, repairing and construction of bridges among others.
The Roads Minister Kwesi Amoako Atta said this at the Burma camp where Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod for the commencement of the upgrade of Garrison roads across the country.
Mr Amoako Atta announced a partnership which will allow the men in uniform to join forces with his ministry to fix roads and build bridges across the country.
"We want to establish in my ministry, a permanent relationship with the Military because we know what they can do, we know their level of efficiency, and we know their high level of expertise" the Minister said.
Mr. Amoako Atta who was highly optimistic about the execution of the project added,
"From now onwards the ministry of roads and highways representing government is going to work with the Military including the 48 Engineers to fix some of our roads and to fix some of our bridges across the country".
It is however unclear when the project will be completed across Garrisons nationwide.
