A Kumasi circuit court has sentenced a 45-year-old salesman to ten years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing GH¢6,083 (60,833,000 cedis) belonging to his nephew.
Kwaku Owusu pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea.
Briefing the court presided over by Madam Wilhemina Hammond, Police Chief Inspector Comfort Kyei-Baffour said the complainant, Macvenn Marfo is the Manager of Queen's Royal Crown Limited, dealers in tiles and sanitation equipment located in Kumasi, while Owusu was his salesman.
They lived in the same house at Old Tafo in Kumasi.
Chief Inspector Kyei-Baffour said Owusu was in-charge of all the keys to the shop as well as those of the safes.
She said after work, the day's sales were checked by both of them and Owusu was given the amount to keep in the safe.
The prosecutor said on September 20 this year, the usual counting was done and the said amount given to Owusu to transfer it to a business partner in China to pay for goods purchased.
She said four days later, Owusu went to the shop at about 0845 hours and detected that monies kept in the safe was missing and he called his nephew on telephone and informed him of the theft.
The prosecutor said the complainant became suspicious and made a report to the police who arrested the convict and put him before court.
