Samsung has announced that global sales of its Galaxy S4 smartphone have surpassed 10 million units sold in less than one month after its commercial debut.
Galaxy S4 was launched globally on April 27, and it is estimated to be selling at a rate of four units per second.
Cellular News reported that the handset has set a new record for Samsung, generating sales quicker than any of its predecessors.
Sales of the Galaxy S3 reached the 10-million mark 50 days after its launch in 2012, while the Galaxy S II took five months and the Galaxy S seven months to reach the same milestone.
"On behalf of Samsung, I would like to thank the millions of customers around the world who have chosen the Samsung Galaxy S4. At Samsung we'll continue to pursue innovation inspired by and for people," said JK Shin, CEO and President of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung Galaxy S4 is available in more than 110 countries and will gradually be rolled out to a total of 155 countries in cooperation with 327 partners.
Samsung said it is planning to introduce more color variations of the handset later this year.
Incidentally, instead of describing the S4 as a smartphone, Samsung's announcement described it as "a life companion for a richer, fuller, simpler life".
In Africa, Samsung is offering an unprecedented package called accidental damage from handling (ADH) on the S4, which means users can have two opportunities for free replacement of the screen if there it breaks or there is a liquid damage within the 24-month e-warranty period.
In Ghana Samsung and most of its accredited dealers are collaborating with Standard Chartered Bank to offer a one-year payment plan for the persons who want to purchase Galaxy S4.
The Samsung office in Ghana said it sold almost 50,000 units of Galaxy S3 in Ghana, but it is not clear how many units of S4 has been sold in Ghana so for.
