The Black Satellites of Ghana secured a quarter final place in the ongoing World U-20 after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Portugal. Ghana, relinquished a solitary goal lead and found themselves trailing the Portuguese by two goals to one with 15 minutes remaining but substitutes Michael Anaba and Richmond Boakye Yiadom got the Satellites back into winning ways with two quick superb goals. It was the Portuguese who got the Ghana defence panting in the opening 15 seconds of the match but striker Aladje wasted a glaring opportunity. Aladje had been put through with a sublime pass and needed just a simple tap in the six yard box but somehow the young striker contrived to mess up the opportunity. He did not only fail to get the Portuguese account opened but he also failed to set a record as the fastest goal scorer in the tournament. The fluffed opportunity signaled a clear intent of the Portuguese but became a wakeup call for the Satellites who gradually warmed themselves into the game. Moses Odjer fired from 20 yards and forced a superb finger tip save from Jose in post for the Portuguese. Ghana’s Kennedy Ashia opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a superb well taken shot to beat an outstretched Jose. The Portuguese came back strongly but the Ghana defence was resolute and kept the Portuguese strikers at bay. The Portuguese returned from recess the more aggressive side and left the Ghanians side back peddling for most part. Thiago Ferreira got the well deserved equaliser for Portugal when he blasted from a close range. He was set up beautifully by Bruma. Edgar got the Portuguese in front with a powerful header from a sumptuous cross. Ghana coach Sellas Tetteh made two substitutions by bringing on Boakye Yiadom and Michael Anaba- two players who became the heroes for the night. Anaba tapped in from close range to get a crucial equaliser for the Satellites and Boakye Yiadom secured the match winner with a blistering shot from a free kick which meandered its way through the wall and eventually into the net. 3-2 it ended in favour of Ghana.
