Some National Service Personnel are demanding full payment of the new allowances approved by the Mahama-led administration.
Former President John Mahama announced 60 percent increase in the allowances of the personnel days before exiting office.
Per the increment, the Service Personnel are expected to receive GHC599 instead of GHC350.
A statement signed by the Finance Ministry's Chief Director, Patrick Nomo directed the Auditor-General to conduct an audit of the new rate to enable payment to start as scheduled.
The Personnel expected to receive the increased amount this month, but as it stands, the Akufo-Addo government is yet to effect the payment.
Some of the Personnel who spoke to Joy News said government’s failure to pay the increased amount is a disrespect of their work.
“The first quarter budget for 2017 that will be executed from January to March was drawn and announced by the then finance Minister, Seth Terkper in October 2016.
“Then, they were still working on the increment and the finality came in December and so we think that it is a matter of disrespect and disregard if the same amount comes in with no explanation, no communication and no show of concern or care from the National Service Seretariat or the government,” one angry Personnel said.
He added that it was unfair for Service Personnel to keep recieving the same amount for over three years with no increment although the cost of living has gone up.
“The average national personnel has been ignored so government needs to implement the increment because they really need it,” he stressed.
