Societe Generale is the latest bank to join the campaign by banks which are taking steps to inculcate the habit of savings in the general public.
According to the Head of Retail Network at SG Bank, Obed Hoyah, his outfit has initiated steps in sensitizing the youth on the benefits of saving for the future.
“Nowadays we see the youth becoming more interested in saving because they have plans for things they want to do in life. Some want to set up businesses, others who plan to do things in terms of education, marriage and etcetera," he said.
Speaking to Joy Business at the final draw of the “Aben Wo Ha” Deposit and win promotion, he said, “we are sensitizing them on the need to start saving very early for the things they need to do in life.”
The deficit of Ghana’s unbanked population currently stands at 60% with 36 banks currently operating in the country.
In response to whether or not the bank is ready to embark on this initiative yearly, Mr Hoyah said, “we’ve been doing it for the past five years or so, we look at our plans for the year as part of our strategy.
"This is what we plan to do and every year we’ll give consideration to doing it.”
He added that SG Bank Ghana is seeking to fulfil its promise of making banking more convenient and comfortable with the refurbishment of its branches in order to make it ultra-modern and highly-digitalized.
The “Aben Wo Ha” Deposit and win promotion draw produced six lucky depositors emerging winners of a brand new Suzuki Baleno each.
They are Alexander Awuku of the bank’s Premier Towers branch, Teye Oyu of Sunyani branch, Mary Asabea Attor of Tema Fishing Harbour branch, Albert Senyo Zoranoo of Kaneshie branch, Gifty Thompson of Cape Coast and Fati Nyagima of Wa branches.
