School children and residents of Kpetoe in the Agortime Ziope District are elated to have finally gotten a library in the community.
The library was commissioned by the Silver Youth Club and handed over to the Ghana Library Authority to handle.
The Silver Youth Club in commemoration of its 25th anniversary officially commissioned the ultra-modern library with auxiliary facilities for the benefit of the communityÂ
The president of the club William Sokpoli said there is a need for such groups like the Silver Youth Club to help with the developmental needs of the people, especially in regard to education.
Mr Sokpoli advocated for reading and learning clubs to be formed in every community to help improve the educational standards of children.
He noted that all stakeholders must endeavour to come together and make sure that every child of school-going age is well educated, instilling in them the importance of reading and learning.Â
The Volta Regional Director of Ghana Library Authority, Bright Ofori also said there is an urgent need for government to have libraries in every community in the country.
Mr Ofori noted that the libraries in every community will help the children read and learn on their own and also make them eager to always go to the libraries on their own even without the supervision of their parentsÂ
The Silver Youth Club of Agotime is 25 years old and has members from across the country and abroad with a mission of giving back to their community, Kpetoe.
The club had several activities like health walks, health screenings, cutting of sod for the construction of the Kente village in Kpetoe and a dinner dance among others to mark their 25th anniversary.
