A founding member of the New Patriotic Party is demanding the immediate resignation of the party's General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who was convicted of intentional criminal contempt.
Nyaho Tamakloe says Afriyie, popularly called Sir John has brought shame to the party and must resign honourably.
Sir John, together with a member of the NPP Communications team, Hopeson Adorye, were delivered from the jaws of jail after they were found guilty of criminal contempt.
Even though free, at least for now, the two were subjected to severe tongue-lashing by the Judges, with the Presiding Judge, William Atuguba leading the forays.
Atuguba did not understand how a lawyer of 32 years standing will subject the highest court of the land to ridicule.
He was blunt in his description of Afriyie and others like him, as dabbling in illegal political galamsey.
The judges reluctantly waived a jail sentence and handed a 5,000 cedis and 2,000 cedis fines to Sir John and Adorye respectively.
Speaking to Citi News on the matter, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe said his General Secretary should not be told to resign, the humiliation alone should be enough for him to resign honourably.
"The level he was brought to is enough to make him resign," he stated, adding "in any civilised country if a General Secretary is brought down to that level, nobody should advise him to resign."
He said if it was not for his lawyer, Ayikoi Otoo, Sir John would have been jailed but that notwithstanding, he was charged and convicted for his remarks.
Tamakloe, said nobody should engage in irresponsible acts in the name of the party.
