The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sissala East, Adamu Yakubu, has assured that urgent steps are being taken to repair and replace faulty medical equipment at the Tumu Municipal Hospital.
Authorities warn that the prolonged breakdown of the clinical chemistry analyser at Tumu Municipal Hospital is putting patients, especially those with liver and kidney conditions, at serious risk.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM's Midday News on Thursday, March 19, Mr. Yakubu acknowledged the severity of the challenge, revealing that some of the hospital’s critical equipment has become obsolete after decades of use.
“As a municipality, we are collaborating with the central government and our Member of Parliament to get some of this equipment fixed as soon as possible,” he said.
He cited the hospital’s X-ray machine as a major concern, noting that it has been in operation for over 20 to 30 years and is no longer functional. “Certainly, it has malfunctioned and cannot serve its purpose,” he added.
The MCE disclosed that the assembly is engaging key stakeholders to mobilise resources for urgent repairs and replacements to restore essential healthcare services in the municipality.
In the meantime, patients in need of critical services are being referred to neighbouring districts due to the current limitations at the Tumu facility.
Mr. Yakubu also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve emergency response, revealing that the area’s Member of Parliament has provided funding support to repair the municipal ambulance, including the procurement of a new engine.
He expressed optimism that the combined efforts of the assembly, central government, and other stakeholders will help address the situation and improve healthcare delivery in the area in the shortest possible time.
