Hundreds of people have been left stranded as a result of incessant rains that have deteriorated the road network in the Sissala East and West Districts of the Upper West Region. The rains have submerged large tract of farm lands and rendered almost all the already untarred roads leading to both districts impassable, resulting in a halt of all forms of human activities. The road from Wa through to Dajan, Nandom-Wala to Jeffissi into Tumu got submerged with flood water washing away all bridges in sight on the Tumu – Wa high way.The condition of roads in the Tumu Township has deteriorated with recently built ones showing cracks. The Gwollu–Tumu road had one of its major bridges washed away from St Clares Vocational Centre forcing drivers to park their vehicles at both ends of the road for their own safety at the expense of perishable goods that some of them are carrying from Tema. The Tumu–Bolgatanga stretch has also not been spared after the Bagre dam was opened few days before the unexpected torrential rains. The Metro Mass Transit bus that commutes between Tumu and Bolgatanga had no option than to park and spend the night on a road that in recent times has become notorious for armed robbery attacks.Over 20 communities in both districts including Chinchang, Nanchala, kuntulo, Nahadaqui, Pieng, Wuru, Navarirwie, all maize farming communities, have been severely affected. This has heightened fears of the loss of thousand of Ghana Cedis of investment on maize farms by farmers. The Volta River Authority has told Radford FM in Tumu that lightning that accompanied the rains had killed about four donkeys in Lilixia and had also destroyed high–tension poles in Lipilime, Funsi rendering some communities and parts of Burkina Faso without lights.
