Smile4Ghana, a dental charity organisation registered in the United Kingdom and its logistics partner, Jonmoore International Limited and affiliate partners embarked on a 3-day dental outreach in the Eastern Region between April 25th – 27th, 2023.
The Achiase Health Centre was the base for this year’s dental outreach and benefitted children and adults from Achiase and its surrounding communities such as Akim Awisa, Akim Oda, Akim Swedru, Nyakomase, Anomase, Kokobeng, Akrosu, Osorase.
Smile4Ghana dental outreach is a joint initiative by three dental practioners and specialists and their spouses who are resident in the UK. They collaborate with a team of volunteer health professionals among others in Ghana to execute this annual dental program.
Jonmoore International, an indigenous transport and project logistics company is the logistics partner of Smile4Ghana and as part of its long term corporate social responsibility, aspires to support this benevolent cause in line with its corporate values.
An average of 150 persons were seen daily by the 3-man dental specialists from the UK with assistance from 2 local dentist on the second day. The benefactors included pupils and students, health workers, adults, civil and public servants, and security personnel. The 3-day outreach covered dental and oral education, tooth extractions, treatment of gum diseases, scaling and polishing among others.
Dr. George Brown stated that “the dental outreach seeks to provide quality dental care to underprivileged Ghanaians and specifically seek to offer primary care services whilst providing dental and health education that emphasizes more on prevention”.
Dr. Malcom Farr expressed concern about Ghana’s alarming dentist-to-patient ratio and suggested the need for more training and innovation to grow the number of dentists in the country to help curb the prevailing rate of dental related issues.
Dr. Chris Vondee, described the free dental screening exercise as “a more fulfilling and healthier way of giving back to society whilst impacting the lives of people, especially those in the remote parts of Ghana”.
Smile4Ghana in partnership with Jonmoore International and its affiliate partners look forward to providing the annual dental outreach to underprivileged communities in Ghana.
