Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu have clashed over the President’s refusal to assent to some private members’ bill passed by the House.
President Akufo-Addo had refused to assent to the bills claiming they placed a charge on the Consolidated Fund hence rendering them unconstitutional.
He stated that the Presidency in due time will reintroduce those bills into Parliament for due process.
The speaker, reacting to the President’s statement expressed his disapproval of the President’s actions.
According to him, the president’s actions are patently unconstitutional and a misinterpretation of the Constitution.
In an attempt to object to the Speaker’s remarks, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was asked to resume his seat.
While trying to make his case, the Speaker carried on with Parliamentary business leaving the majority leader peeved.
