Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has backed concerns over Ghana's infrastructure being at risk of deteriorating without dedicated funds for maintenance.
Earlier in Parliament on Thursday, March 27, former Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwu, warned of the consequences on the country's infrastructure should it continue to be neglected.
His concerns were raised after Parliament approved 65 million cedis for the Services of the Sports Ministry, but without any allocation for capital expenditure.
In addition to Nitiwu, Annoh-Dompreh also called for the Sports Committee of Parliament to rectify the decision to leave that out.
"We've spent, we've invested so much into this infrastructure, and it cannot be the case that we leave it as it is until we have a tournament coming before we go in there. Yes, we commend the minister. He intervened on time and ensured that these interventions were executed, but it has to be traditionally done, and it's something we must do to make sure the national assets don't run down," he said.
"I cannot agree more with my senior colleague that, yes, we cannot vary the volume, the entire volume of the budget, but we can change position. We can make some interpositional changes in terms of the allocation and the chairman, and the ranking should take this matter up. We will approve the budget, contingent on you following up."
