Minister of Youth and Sports designate, Akua Sena Dansua on Monday asked Ghanaians to give her the opportunity to serve the nation and shock all who have expressed scepticism over her nomination.
Speaking at a reception at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome the Black Stars from Angola where they finished as silver medallists at the 27th African Cup of Nations, Akua Dansua said many people did not give the Black Stars even a dog’s chance at the tournament. However, with determination and a sense of purpose they rose to the occasion and played so well, a situation which saw them almost winning gold.
“Like a lot of people said earlier, when you were going nobody gave you a dog’s chance, but by the grace of God and through determination and unity of purpose and your ability to die a little for Ghana you have come back as winners. As far as some of us are concerned you won the match and not Egypt because you were playing with uncles, your fathers and everything else, you wore them and a lot of us were excited so I want to use this opportunity to welcome you all back and to say that I have learnt something from your victory. When my nomination came, a lot of sceptics kept saying so many things but I want to use this opportunity to tell them just like you have told Ghanaians and the whole nation that it is when you don’t give somebody a dog’s chance that that person excels. I want them to give me the opportunity to serve this nation to continue from where my good friend Rashid is leaving off, and with the cooperation of all of you...there will be better things happening to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Ghana.”
