Youth and Sports Minister has paid a working visit to the nation’s premier swimming Club Tesano Dolhpins ahead of their trip to Anrsberg, Germany.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, was welcomed and introduced to the swimmers by Abbiw Jackson, who doubles as Team Manager and head coach.
The Minister observed the normal training regime of the swimmers and subsequently held discussions with the management of the team.
The visit by the Sports Ministers was to learn more about the club and show solidarity with the team ahead of their 13th May, 2013 trip to Europe, to participate in the 42 Annual Schwimmfest in Arnsberg, Germany.
The competition is touted as one of the 10 best club based, age categorized competitions in the world.
An estimated total of 800 swimmers are expected to participate in the competition.
The minister, the President of the National Swimming Association and the team manager all watched physical drills and exercise in the pool and were excited with the prospects shown by the team.
“This visit is a fulfillment of my pledge to be the Minister of All sports” Honorable Elvis Afriye Ankrah said in response to a question about the purpose of his visit.
He also congratulated the young swimmers and their handlers and praised them for their hard work, ethics and dedication thus far.
He subsequently pledged his support for the team and foresees the young swimmers excelling at future Olympic Games.
“Ghanaians should watch swimming. In the next few years, we will be able to do wonders at even the Olympic level. I have confidence in these young kids, I see a lot of potential in them and they have my full support.”
Team Manager Abbiw Jackson was delighted to have such an august guest visit his team and was certain this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship.
“I think we have no doubt now, that we have an ally in this minister”, said Abbiw Jackson.
