Some of the nation's best-known musicians, including Asem, Reggie Rockstone, VIP, Obuor, Shasha Marley and Papa Yankson are lending their support to Accra Reads, a project to rekindle interest in reading, especially by young people. Initiated by the Goethe-Institut, Accra Reads is a project aimed at generating interest in the habit of reading among Ghanaians. The project has brought the music celebrities on board to help drum home the fact that reading is a pleasurable activity worth acquiring by all. The Head of Information at the Goethe-Institut in Accra, Kinsgley Nii-Addy, said musicians have their unique way of impacting on people and events and that was why the Goethe-Institut thought of including some of them to spread the message about reading. "The musicians are listened to a lot by young people," Nii-Addy says. Some of them have even already gone out of their way to promote reading and education so they are already familiar with the objectives we want to achieve with Accra Reads." Apart from a reading session Thursday at the Nima Community Library, another session is scheduled to take place at the Centre for National Culture (Arts Centre) in Accra Friday. "It is always good to give something back to society so we see our involvement in Accra Reads as a way of appreciating our fans and encouraging them to acquire an extremely useful habit," Rocksone stated. The Accra Reads project is being held in partnership with UNESCO, Ghana Library Board, Readwide Ghana limited, Writers Project Ghana, Ghana Library Association and Ministry of Education.
