The Sunyani Police have confirmed the custody of two suspected thieves who were nearly lynched by some angry youth at the Sunyani Zongo in the early hours of Monday, November 4, 2024.
A reliable source at the Sunyani Municipal Police Station said the suspects would soon be arraigned before the court as Police investigations continued and added they were in good health.
The suspects, popularly known as ‘Lord Bans’ and ‘Pope Skinny’ allegedly broke into a provision shop at the Sunyani Zongo and stole some items including a refrigerator at the Sunyani-Chiraa lorry stations, however, luck eluded them when they attempted to pack the items.
One Malik, one of the concerned residents who rescued the suspects, after the irate youth subjected them to severe beating and attempted to set them ablaze, told the media that the suspect sold some of the stolen items, but the items had since been retrieved from the buyer.
Mr Bawa Haruna, the husband of Madam Fati Haruna, also told the media that stealing and burglaries had become a problem in the area and appealed to the Police to beef up police visibility, especially at night.
He said he was optimistic that the police would be expeditious with their investigations for the suspects to face justice and serve as a deterrent to some of the youth in the area who had resorted to stealing as a profession.
