Some supporters of the immediate past Information Minister, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng thronged his plush residence at Kormantse in the Central region at the weekend to pledge their solidarity concerning his recent encounter with national security.
Mr Asamoah Boateng and his family was purportedly prevented from traveling by officials of Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to assist in investigations.
The supporters donning NPP t-shirts shouted NPP slogans and songs before they were addressed by the former minister.
They took turns to thank Mr Asamoah Boateng who is also the former Member of Parliament for the area for the development efforts in the Mfantseman West constituency and pledged their commitment to support him and the NPP party no matter what happens.
Mr Asamoah Boateng was with his wife Mrs Zulieka Asamoah Boateng.
The speakers sympathized with the couple on what they described as “intimidation” by national security.
Addressing the supporters later Mr Asamoah Boateng said time would vindicate him.
He said he would now be like Jesus Christ who on the cross said “Lord forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Mr Asamoah Boateng urged government to work to ensure that no individuals’ rights were violated in this democratic dispensation.
He said it was important that the rule of law prevailed in all situation no matter who was involved.
He urged the supporters to be calm and not to do anything that would disturb the peace in the communities adding that time would tell and the truth would surely prevail.
He also urged them to work hard to rebuild the party in the constituency and the help ensure that the party recaptures power in the 2012 general election.
“You should not allow yourselves to be distracted but work hard to put the NPP which obviously is committed to good governance back to power,” he said.
Mrs Asamoah Boateng on her part thanked the supporters for their support and said she would not commit on any issue which was before the court.
