This year’s K. N. Tamaklo Memorial Golf Championship tees off at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday, November 1.
Mr Kwabena Oteng-Aboagye, General Manager of the Achimota Golf Club who announced this in Accra on Sunday, said about 200 golfers are expected to participate in the one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event.
He said the event, which is in its seventh year was in memory of Dr Kwabena Nyaho Tamaklo, a founding member of the Ghana Golf Association who passed away in 2001.
Mr Oteng-Aboagye said the competition which has Handicap 18 and 24 respectively as the entry requirements, would be sponsored by Nyaho Medical Centre and it would be played in accordance with the Ghana Golf Association’s rules and the local rules of the Achimota Golf Club.
Reverend (Mrs) Anna Brentuo, Administrative Manager of the Nyaho Medical Centre described the late Tamaklo as a renowned golfer whose exemplary role brought significant contributions to activities of the Association.
She said as a medical doctor, the founding member ensured that many of his colleagues benefited from the enormous health related benefits the sport offered them.
“As an icon and a golfer for 25 years, a memorial tournament was therefore instituted in his honour and has been played for the past six years’, she added.
Mrs Janet Tamaklo, wife of the late Tamaklo, who is also the Managing Director of Nyaho Medical Centre, is expected to grace the occasion.
