A taxi driver has been shot dead in a disturbing incident involving a policewoman at Tetegu near Weija, prompting an official investigation by the Ghana Police Service.
The shooting occurred on January 19, 2026, after what police describe as a confrontation between the officer and the driver.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the policewoman allegedly shot the driver, who was operating a Hyundai i10 taxi cab.
The injured driver was rushed to the Police Hospital for emergency treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say the incident did not end there. As the policewoman attempted to leave the scene, she was reportedly hit by a vehicle, sustaining injuries to her head and both legs. She is currently on admission and receiving medical care.
Investigators who processed the scene recovered several exhibits, including one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one spent 9mm cartridge.
The Ghana Police Service says investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be communicated as the probe progresses.
The statement was signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, for the Director-General of Public Affairs.
