The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, in partnership with the Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Centre for Excellence (KACE) and Lisbon-based Greenwich Consulting, are jointly organizing, a panel discussion on how best to connect the next billions to the Internet. The event, to be moderated by Mr. Kwaku Sakyi-Addo, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, is slated for Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the auditorium of AITI-KACE from 08:30-11:30am. It is a local follow-up to the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona in February aimed at exploring the opportunities and challenges of giving all Ghanaians access to the Internet, along with mobile applications and content relevant to the Ghanaian market. The forum will bring together representatives from government, regulators, World Bank, network operators, infrastructure companies, phone manufacturers, tertiary institutions, mobile app and content developers and other sector players to discuss the key trends in the mobile industry and their relevance to the Ghanaian market. The panel includes Dr. Robert Baffuor, Vice-President of the Ghana Technology University College, Ms. Mavis Ampah of the World Bank, Kofi Dadzie, CEO of Rancard Solutions and Mr. Samuel Dowuona, a journalist. “It’ll be an open, stimulating dialogue. We’ll have expert conversations to deepen understanding of the impact on latest Telecom trends and what they mean for Ghana”- said Sakyi-Addo. “We will discuss the impact of Mobile Broadband and deliberate further on how to connect the Next Billions to the Internet. We will delve into other topics such us OTT, 4G, mobile money, mobile apps, new smartphones - says Magnus Rehle, from the strategy consulting firm, Greenwich. Director of AITI-KACE, Dorothy Gordon believes “with less than a third of the world’s population connected to the Internet, mobile technology will be instrumental in bringing the next few billion people online.” The Telecoms Chamber and AITI-KACE hope to make the event an annual contribution to the constructive discussion on the development of the sector. Greenwich Consulting has successfully organized such events in other countries where it has presence such as Sweden and Portugal.
