Political parties have been urged to convince voters of what they would be doing differently to tackle the nation’s development challenges and make things better for everybody.
Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, Deputy Chairperson in-charge of Finance and Administration of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said Ghanaians deserved to hear more from them about their election manifesto on the campaign platform to aid them to make the right choices.
The political campaign should become issues-based. It should not be about insults, propaganda, rumors, lies and falsehood.
She was inaugurating the Kumasi Metropolitan Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, chaired by the Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, in Kumasi.
It draws its membership from the various political parties, the National Peace Council, the security agencies, the media, religious bodies, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Governing Council and some opinion leaders.
The Committee is to assist in efforts at ensuring a peaceful general election to sustain the nation on the path of stability and progress.
Ms. Nkrumah called for the people to demand responsible conduct by politicians and reject violence.
She encouraged the members to work hard to promote political tolerance and decent conduct by all key political actors.
Nana Mensah Asare said everybody should share the responsibility of protecting the peace – to make the presidential and parliamentary polls incident-free.
He asked the people to overcome hypocrisy and roundly condemn any reckless and irresponsible pronouncement by politicians.
