Teshie Presbyterian c Senior High School beat 19 other schools to place first in the overall sports team events of the first edition of the Sports and Music Jamboree organized by the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
Tema Senior High School pipped West African Senior High School by a lone goal to emerge female soccer champions at the events held last Friday at Athletics Oval of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Christiana Boateng (seven goals) and Christabel Yeboah of Tema Senior High School took the Golden Shoe and best player awards respectively in the female soccer event.
Ibrahim Wassilatu and Yaro Samuel of West African Senior High School and Teshie Presec respectively were adjudged the overall best athletes.
The two will also receive full scholarships to complete their courses and will also embark on a trip to London for the 2012 Olympics sponsored by African Origins Travel and Sports Tourism.
The athletes also received certificates, products from the many sponsors of the event and a plaque of honour as part of their prize package.
The two-day event aimed at creating a platform to unearth sporting talents.
Popular comedian Funny Face, musicians Castro and Ohema Mercy took the opportunity to entertain the athletes and fans at the two-day event.
Mr Samuel Anim Addo, CEO of Asamoah Gyan Foundation told Asempa Sports he was so impressed with the attendance and the level of competition exhibited by the young athletes and expressed belief that the Foundation’s objective of helping to unearth talents had been achieved.
The event will be held annually with venues rotated among the regions.
The chief athletic coach of Ghana Athletics Association, Mr. Albert Nukpezah who was the head of the technical team for the event said with proper grooming, some of the talents will sure become assets for the nation.
