The Executive Director of Alliance of Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson and Accra FM presenter, Bobie Ansah, joined the Royal House Chapel International Church to thank God for their release.

Their work colleagues and families joined them for thanksgiving service on Sunday.

The head pastor of the Royal House Chapel, Apostle Sam Korankye Ankrah, prayed for the two and assured them that they have nothing to fear, since notable persons have added their voices to the issue.

"I pray grace upon your lives, for wisdom and protection for any threat upon your lives today on this altar we cancel it. Any threat to your family members we cancel it, they will gather against you but not by the Lord.

"And any weapon that is formed against you; whether it is political, spiritual, financial, manipulation or brute force; we pray that the Lord will raise your standard against them.

"We pray that you dwell in peace, Ghana will know peace...the oppressor will not prevail...liberty and democracy will thrive but above all development and prosperity..." the man of God prayed.

He noted that as a result of the case against the two, “the freedom of the liberty of the press will move to a different level.”

He also reiterated his demand for accountability from the government.

Apostle Ankrah believes government officials must let the people in on their responsibilities.

“We will call upon them to account for the promises that they make when we elect them. So we are telling them that this is not going to be the assignment of journalist and the court only but every citizen of this nation,” he said.

He further prayed for them before they took off to their respective seats.

Police apprehended the duo media practitioners on two different accounts on charges of false news publications.

Mr Thompson was arrested for allegedly publishing false news; he was also charged with offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.

This was after he had published on Facebook last year a claim alleging that President Akufo-Addo’s relatives used the Presidential jet on a shopping spree in the United Kingdom.

He subsequently retracted the post and apologised for it.

He was arraigned and later granted bail sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties. The case was further adjourned to 10th March, 2022.

Radio presenter Kwabena Bobie Ansah, on the other hand, was arrested on February 10, at 10 pm, right after his political talk show ended by persons purported to be National Security operatives.

He was also accused of publishing false news on January 1, this year, accusing the presidential spouses of granting themselves “state lands at AU Village, around the Kotoka International Airport for the construction of Rebecca Foundation”.

According to the police, the said presenter further called the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, “a thief and that she has stolen state land around the Kotoka International Airport,” a statement he knew was “likely to occasion the breach of the peace”.

He was also granted a GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties on February 11 to appear before the court on March 14, 2022.
